Cyndi’s List is a massive and important resource for all genealogy researchers. It was started by Cyndi Ingle in 1996, and in my opinion, is one of the most useful resources that can guide you in your personal research. It is much more than a card catalog. There are various ways to reach resource links that may help you.
Some of its characteristics are directly from the Cyndi’s List website:
- A categorized & cross-referenced index to genealogical resources on the Internet.
- A list of links that point you to genealogical research sites online.
- A free jumping-off point for you to use in your online research.
- A “card catalog” to the genealogical collection in the immense library that is the Internet.
- Your genealogical research portal onto the Internet.
Other features are:
- You can start by location or by record category. This is extremely useful, as some other genealogy link sites only allow searching by location or category, but not both.
- Cyndi’s List currently has over 315,000 links and about 230 categories and sub-categories
