The Wiki is amazing. It has over 100,000 articles and essentially is as the website states: “Find the birth, death, marriage, census records, and other genealogy resources for your ancestor.”
The Wiki is a guide to finding where to look for a specific location or genealogy resource category. There likely is an article that will help you find a collection somewhere to browse through or search.
It also is a wonderful educational tool. Here’s an example. Let’s say you want to find some death information about an ancestor who died in Clarke County, Alabama in 1904. If you go to the Wiki article about that county, you will discover that the state didn’t start requiring death registrations until 1908, and even at that, general compliance was not accomplished until 1925. As you can see, for this example, looking for a death record at the state level is a waste of your time.
The Wiki is full of information like this example. It has thousands of links to collections, records, books, and other information that will help you in your genealogy journey.
