Another underutilized genealogy resource is Church Records. We tend to focus our research on civil records, but we must be aware that church records often pre-date civil records and are a great resource. In the BMD Records section of this website, there are about 15,000 collections of civil records that are available online. Yes, that’s a lot, but we need to also search church records as well.

What can we find in church or synagogue records? Here’s just a short list of what nuggets we can find:

  • Baptisms and Christenings
  • Marriages
  • Deaths
  • Burials
  • Confirmations
  • Membership lists
  • Church Minutes
  • Church Directories
  • Transfer Letters
  • Bar or Bat Mitzvahs
  • Sunday School lists
  • Church newsletters

In addition, many folks also documented important events in family bibles, so they need to be searched as well if the event information has been digitized.

Here are a couple of articles that you might find useful:

There is a large number of Free Online Church Record collections; the links for the state are below:

Note: Some links listed take you to a FamilySearch Collection of digital images. Near the bottom of the page, under Film/Digital Notes, is the name of each sub-collection. If there is a camera icon to the right of the name (in the Format column), then the collection’s images are browsable. If there is a camera with a key icon, it is only available at a Family History Center or affiliated library. If there is a film reel icon, then it is only available in microfilm format, not digital. To take full advantage make sure that you are logged in to FamilySearch. The results may be different if you are signed in, rather than not.

Hello, I’m Patrick (47) from Germany, near Aachen, and I hear voices.

I believe they are demons. I’m looking for someone who can pray for my deliverance.

I’m a believer and attend a local free church.

Several pastors have already tried to free me from these voices.

I’m still searching.

A sincere prayer is a great help.

I believe in the power of prayer. Please pray that I find someone who can pray for my deliverance.

I’ve been searching for about 5 years now and believe that God will help.

Cell phone number: 01782368179

P.S. Aside from looking for someone who can pray freely, prayer is a

wonderful source of support for me. I’m always happy when I read that my

brothers and sisters are praying for me.

Make it easy for me. 🙃

The first time I was in Hilden.

Then in Dortmund

Then in Aachen

Then twice in Switzerland.

The first time, they started with a prayer, but I had to drive back.

There wasn’t enough time in the evening; despite the

appointment, I waited almost 4 hours. The second time, they didn’t even

start, and I was sad about that.

1 time in Rheine on 11/17/23

1 time in Krefeld on April 5, 2025

I believe that God also gives me the freedom so that I can serve Him fully.

I’m sorry that I didn’t hold on to Him when our marriage

broke down in 2007. In 2000, I found faith in Jesus, got married,

had a child (Paula, 20), ❤ became a home group leader, and was

baptized in a Pentecostal church. From 2007

until six years ago, I had fallen away from the faith, but then I repented, turned back, confessed

my sins, and turned away from them. For this I am grateful to Jesus, that he has given me this.

I was picked up by someone who had been set free through prayer in faith.

He picked me up at the train station; that was the second-to-last meeting. I was

full of faith and hope. The young man who picked me up had once been schizophrenic

and was taking medication. In any case, we went to the Russian-German

pastor who had set the boy free through faith and prayer. He began to

pray for me… to pray… to ask me questions… to pray… just to ask me questions…

That was it…

He stopped before he was finished.

I believe that Jesus also obtained deliverance for me on the cross. I am living as

a Christian!!!! Please include me in your prayers!

In the evening, before you go to sleep… I want to

live even better for God!

Please pray that I may serve God freely.

I have been searching all over the world for years for people to pray for me, and many Christians stand by me, and that makes me happy.

A sincere prayer is a great help.

I need my brothers and sisters to sincerely intercede for me in prayer before God… You have been helping me for so many years… and I am happy every time I read that you are doing so…

I want to live a good life before God, and for the sake of others… Please pray that God helps me in this, and that I may serve Him freely and wholeheartedly…

I repented of my sins and received forgiveness for them years ago; I will not commit them again…

Help me… I need you.

God’s blessing to all my brothers and sisters, and Greetings from Germany.

Patrick
